Hey all. This is a 365 request from my very good friend Janie. She sent me a funny and exciting picture of someone very dear to her going down a slide, and I decided to take it somewhere different in Inkscape. I was especially inspired for this image by the one below, one that I use to discuss sometimes non-ambiguous emotion in design.
I’m a big supporter of Twitter, but mostly because of its kajillion millions of users. Open source based tweet-ternatives, like identi.ca exist, and are great, but they just don’t have the same user base. I drew the picture in this way to be funny, I don’t actually believe it’s in Twitter’s best interest or actions to attack identi.ca, but I could see a rivalry emerging at some point. As a matter of fact, I think I set Friendfeed to autopost anything I put there out to identi.ca too, but I’m not there enough to know if that’s the case. If anyone wants to have an in-house self-hosted Twitter, know that you can use the open source technology that identi.ca is based on, called statusnet available at http://status.net .
So, In Inkscape, I took both Janie’s picture and an image of the Twitterbird, as well as an image of a hand, and did bitmap traces on all three, as well as duping and flipping the hand. Then, I used the calligraphy tool to paint out the Twitterbird and the boy’s face and hair. I placed the hands and built arms and a shirt and neck with the rectangle and calligrpahy tools. I added identi.ca with the text tool. For increased terror, I made the eyes large and wide, and duped and lowered opacity on copies of the arms.
Thanks very much to Janie and Mr. 6 (pictured below with permission). They both rock it.

I love this! I can not wait to show Mr. 6 what you did with his photo. He will be thrilled.
BTW, you can link to the original if you like.
Thanks, Janie — I will! Glad you liked it and thanks again for the share.
