Like many people my age (I’m 36 this year), I’m a huge fan of the original Star Wars Trilogy, and although I didn’t despise the prequels like many others, I didn’t enjoy them as much as the originals. I remember being in the theater when I first saw this tiny two legged walker run across the screen in Empire, still reeling from the AT-ATs. Making this in Inkscape is just a matter of finding and importing a good clear picture of the subject, and adding some text elements to the canvas with the text tool that you can then easily “paint” with using the selection-stamp (space) method. I worked from head to toe matching pieces of text to the shapes in the image, rotating, stretching, skewing, and resizing wherever necessary to really define the outline, while at the same time keeping the image simple enough to clearly see the textual elements. It’s a slow process, but very rewarding when you are finished.

great job on this one. totally playing on my Star Wars addiction too.
Cool, thanks!
At first all I could think of was negative comments for these. Then I waited. I finally thought, this is pretty nice. I’d like to see it as a big poster and hang it on the wall and look at it everyday for a year. Then I started thinking negative thoughts again. Then I waited. I was always told, if you don’t have something nice to say don’t say anything at all. Mostly I don’t say anything. Bye.
It’s not meant to be a series of masterpieces. It’s meant to be a short daily exploration of my familiarity with the various features of an application. It also is meant to help me grow as a designer, which I already feel it has. It’s public for a reason — I want to know what people think so that I can improve and react. If you have something constructive to say, you should say it — please just don’t ask me to take it down later.
